Currently in Korea, homebuilders are stepping up their housing brands' ad campaigns.
For housing models from GS that just opened in Pusan, a high quality in their design was required due to market expectations. This is especially true for the design of the façade, which attracts public attention, where the following were requested:

  • It should have high transparency so that people can appreciate an appearance that varies as the lighting changes.
  • It should discreetly advertise the GS logo. After reviewing available materials, they decided to adopt ETFE film. That is because ETFE film meets all the criteria; not only basic elements such as strength, cost and durability but also the demanding aspects of design.

While everything went smoothly with the construction there were some aspects we needed to be careful with while introducing the new membrane material. Among these were the accuracy of the steel frames, wrinkles at acute-angled parts, the effect of tension in the membrane on the structure and air distribution sound. We at MakMax Korea have become quite confident using the new material based upon our experience with 2 ETFE projects this year.

Since final completion, the ETFE film façade for the GS Xi housing model has been receiving a lot of attention due to the unique characteristics; such as:

  • The sparkling sheen and the curve of the material that reminds you of the squamous of a living organism.
  • A translucent membrane that reflects the illumination inside.
  • An exterior wall that changes with illumination inside at night and with the direction of the sunlight during the day.
  • A printed logo that is seen as a pattern during the daytime and as a shadow at night.

The client is very happy with the result.
The building will provide a place for recreation and relaxation for the citizens and as a housing model and cultural center for the next 10 years.
