Taiyo Kogyo introduces ‘ECOSKY’, the new transparent photovoltaic glass.

Taiyo Kogyo Corporation has begun to export the new transparent photovoltaic glass known as ‘ECOSKY’

‘ECOSKY’ panels combine aesthetics with futuristic functionality, with high light transmission and the benefits of clean solar energy produced for the building.
The ‘ECOSKY’ panels are made up of a transparent solar cell panel encased in two glass panes. The solar cell has been developed with lasers that slit the cell at 1mm intervals that allow for the high light transmission, without compromising the cell's functionality.
One ‘ECOSKY’ panel can produce up to 50W/m² (based on the 5% light transmittance cell), all with the added benefits of reduction in lighting and air condition costs due to the high light transmission and superior solar insulation.
The panels can be used in various applications around a building such as window and skylights. ‘ECOSKY’ panels have already been used for projects across Japan with great success; these include schools, hospitals and commercial buildings.
The ‘ECOSKY’ panels have been used extensively in the domestic market but with the increasing awareness of global warning, Taiyo Kogyo have been inundated with enquires from the overseas markets, making it necessary to broaden the market outside the Japanese boarders.
‘ECOSKY’ will be certified in regions across the globe, firstly this summer in Japan (JET) and then Germany (TÜV)

Standard panels (980mm x 950mm) will cost 1,200 USD plus delivery, although bulk orders will be discounted.

The amorphous solar cell panel's silicon layer is just 0.3 micrometer and as compared with crystal system solar panel, the thickness is parts per hundreds. Energy consumption and CO₂ emission during the manufacturing process will be substantially reduced.
