First project in Europe to feature insulated tensile roofing Tensotherm

Warner Stand was completed in May, becoming the first project in Europe to apply insulated tensile roofing Tensotherm. Warner Stand is part of Lord’s Cricket Ground, located in London, UK, and is a historical ground often referred to as the “Home of Cricket”. Tensotherm roofing was applied to the VIP area at the top portion of the stand, and the roofing which extends over the stand seats was fitted with PTEF roofing. The membrane roof is supported by cantilever beams made of oak. Taiyo Europe GmbH was contracted to engineer, fabricate and install the roof, with Birdair Inc. contributing to a portion of the Tensotherm system.

Tensotherm is the world’s first and only translucent and insulated material which provides diffused glare-free natural daylight, enhanced temperature control, remarkable acoustics, and innovative sustainability. Tensotherm is composed of three layers; the exterior PTFE layer, translucent blanket embedded with aerogel thermal and acoustic insulation, and PTFE acoustic or vapor barrier interior liner. Unlike traditional insulations, the unique composition of the aerogel blanket prevents it from losing any of its insulating value over time. Aerogel is also a hydrophobic material, making it resistant to moisture and mold.

The renovation of the Warner Stand is a part of The Masterplan for the redevelopment of Lord’s Cricket Grounds announced in 2013. It improved the visibility of the stand seats of Warner Stand and was officially opened by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh in attendance. The ground is set to be used for the 2019 Cricket World Cup finals.
