Stade de la Licorne upgraded with ETFE film cladding
2019/07/17

Taiyo Europe GmbH was contracted for the replacement of the existing glass facade of Stade de la Licorne. Located in Amiens, France, Stade de la Licorne is the home stadium to Ligue 1 team Amiens SC. Originally completed in 1999, the stadium has the capacity to seat over 12,000 people. The stadium is notable for its unique design, featuring 26 meter high facades with regular arches at an interval of 8 meters on all four sides of the stadium.

Taiyo Europe was contracted for the engineering, fabrication, and installation of the transparent 250-micron single layer ETFE film panels which replaced the original facade with 10mm glass plates.

Installation proved to be difficult as the façade could not be accessed from within the stadium. Taiyo Europe coordinated an installation process using rope access for the majority of the works and boom lift on the bottom part of the façade.

ETFE film’s characteristic is an advantage to structures requiring the transparency of glass and lightweight nature of tensile membrane structures. ETFE film has superior flexibility and durability, retaining its strength for over 20 years.

The stadium façade was refitted with 10,000 square meters of transparent single layer ETFE film. Construction on the ETFE films began in February 2018 and was completed by the end of August 2018.
